Modified Brooke is a starting estimate for severe burns. Use partial- and full-thickness TBSA only, split 50% by hour 8 from injury and 50% over the next 16 hours, then titrate to urine output and perfusion.
Pediatric selection calculates the burn-resuscitation portion only. Children often need separate dextrose-containing maintenance fluids; verify pediatric resuscitation with burn/trauma attending guidance.
